When we refer to a painting as abstract or figurative, we set limits on how we encounter, then interpret what we see. I explore the potential fusion of the two. The results are often familiar yet surprising. I attempt to redirect our visual cues and blur the distinctions between the abstract and the figurative image. The process is like wading into uncharted space, hoping to find equilibrium and balance.
In addition to my studio work, I have spent much of my professional career as a creative director, art director, graphic designer, and copy writer. I am a lifelong musician and, in my youth, a performer. I have a BFA in Studio Art from UC Santa Barbara.
In 2021, I completed a six-month pilot program to be trained as a Behavioral Health Para Professional BHPP), with certification as a Parent & Family Support Specialist working with those living with substance use disorders and mental health issues.
